Mailbox
Space on an ISP computer that serves as a "mailbox" for a specific user's/client's incoming and outgoing E-Mail messages .

Mailing list
A list of E-Mail addresses of users who all receive messages sent to a certain group. For example, the "derby.request@ekrl.com", which deals with horse racing, or the "listserve@vm1.nodak.edu", which deals with earthquakes. (See E-Mail, listserv)
Megabyte
A unit of computerized data. A megabyte is a million bytes. (See bit, byte, kilobyte.)
MIDI life - Musical Instrument Digital Interface:
Software that compresses musical data. If a file ends with "mid", it means it was compressed by MIDI.
MIME - Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions
A new Internet protocol for transferring non-textual data such as sound files, movie files, etc.
mIRC
One of the most widely-available IRC programs. It was developed by Khaled Mardan of England. (See IRC.)
Mirror site
If a certain FTP site becomes very popular and is therefore extremely busy, its owner can create a mirror site - another FTP site with the same content. This relieves pressure from the original site. (See FTP, site.)
Modem
The word "modem" stands for "modulator-demodulator". A modem allows your computer to "talk" to other computers via a telephone line. (See network.)
Mosaic
The first WWW browser used over the Internet, Mosaic contributed greatly to the popularity of the Web.
MPEG- Motion Picture Experts Group
A method for video compression. When you see a file that ends with "mpg", it means that it was compressed by MPEG.
